How Often Should You Get Garage Door Repairs & Maintenance?

A garage door is one of the largest moving parts in your home, and it gets used almost every day. So it makes sense that it needs a little attention now and then. Here's how I help homeowners and businesses in Hutto figure out when it's time for maintenance or a repair.
Watch for unusual noises or jerky movement
A door that suddenly starts grinding, squeaking, or popping is telling you something. Noise usually points to worn rollers, loose hardware, or a track that's out of alignment. Jerky or uneven movement can mean the same. If your door used to run quietly and doesn't anymore, that's worth a look before it turns into a bigger problem.
Doors that don't open or close properly
If your door stops partway, reverses on its own, or won't close all the way, something is off. It could be a sensor issue, an obstruction, or a problem with the springs or tracks. A door that won't open or close reliably isn't just inconvenient — it can leave your home or business exposed. Call us and I can help figure out what's going on.
Visible wear on rollers, tracks, cables, and springs
Take a look at the moving parts when the door is closed and the opener is off. Worn or flat rollers, frayed cables, rusted hardware, or a spring with a visible gap are all signs of wear. Weather seals that are cracked or missing let in drafts, moisture, and pests. None of these mean your door is doomed, but they're good reasons to schedule service.
Opener problems
If your opener runs but the door doesn't move, stops short, or only works sometimes, the issue could be in the opener, the gears, or the door itself. Smart-home and remote features can also stop responding. I diagnose opener issues and can repair or replace the unit depending on what's wrong. If you're considering an upgrade, I can also talk through opener options with smart-home and smartphone control.
Preventative maintenance and tune-ups
Maintenance needs depend on your door's condition, how often you use it, and the manufacturer's recommendations — so I won't tell you there's one universal schedule. What I will say is that a tune-up can catch small wear before it becomes a breakdown. Lubrication, hardware checks, and a test of the safety features go a long way. If your door is older or gets heavy daily use, more frequent check-ins make sense; a lightly used door may need less. I can advise based on what I see.

When to call a professional
If you're noticing any of the signs above, or your door just isn't acting right, it's a good time to call. You don't have to know exactly what's wrong — describe what you're seeing or hearing and I can help. We serve Hutto and Central Texas, and we're available 24/7.
A note on safety
Garage door springs and cables are under a lot of tension, and they can cause serious injury if they're handled incorrectly. Please don't try to adjust torsion springs, remove cables, or force a stuck door on your own. That's work for a trained technician with the right tools. If something looks dangerous — a door stuck open, a dangling cable, a snapped spring — call us and I'll get it sorted safely.
